‘Tis the season for those bugs to be multiplying and making us feel oh, so sick. Did you know there are some essential oils that are natural born germ fighters?
Here are a few of my absolute faves, they’re must haves for this time of the year!
This gal is my #1 pick when it comes to fighting germs and healing bronchial infections. Rosemary is loaded with antibacterial properties. Here are some simple ways to get the most out of this amazing essential oil:
1. Put a few drops into a diffuser and run it in your massage office for at least 2 hours per day. This may help a client who is feeling like they are getting a cold, dodge it. And people are usually most infectious before cold and flu symptoms are in full swing. Rosemary oil in the air can keep the germs from getting to you so you don’t get sick!
2. Don’t have a diffuser? Then take a paper towel and fold it up and put a drop or two on that and place it directly beneath the face cradle on the floor. This way your client will get the full benefit. Some people use a large, porous stone and put a drop of oil on that, let it absorb in like a scent sponge. Both are cheap and easy “diffusers” to get you started.
3. Do you heat your oils and lotions in a crock pot or oil heater with water in it? Or do you use a hot stone heater with water in it? Add 4 drops of Rosemary to that water and voila – diffuser.
4. HELP YOUR CLIENTS FEEL BETTER FAST- They have a head cold, stuffy nose, clogged up lungs that just won’t come clear? Send them home with a little Rosemary oil and tell them to fill a large pot with water. Heat up to steaming on the stove. Take the pot and put it on a trivet on the table. Take a large bath towel and drape it over their heads. Drop the Rosemary into the water. Cover head with towel and lean over pot and do a “Rosemary Steam”, breathing in deeply. This may cause them to cough a little and that is natural and will get the gunk up and out where it needs to be. This is an amazing way to not just decongest but actually fight the infection through the respiratory system. Write up a simple protocol and send them home with it and get them doing this simple but super effective self care technique. Bonus Factor- It is also phenomenal for opening the pores.
What other oils do I love for fighting the cold and flu?
Eucalyptus, Camphor, Tea Tree, Peppermint are all super antibacterial powerhouses. They can be used on their own or here’s a suggested blend.
Cold and Flu Essential Oil Synergy
Mix together and store in glass bottle. Do not apply directly to the skin without diluting into a carrier oil or lotion. Dilute at a rate of 2 drops per ounce of carrier. You can use this synergy directly in any diffuser with your clients!
You can also get each of these oils certified organic for a healthy client, healthy planet, and healthy practice.
Be well as you fly through the flu season this year!
